Plastic can be recycled — but loses properties with every cycle. After about two life cycles, what remains is the proverbial park bench. The difference in one sentence: any plastic can become a park bench, but none can become the inner tube of a catheter. Steel does not know this downward spiral: the melt resets the material to zero, the alloy is re-adjusted, and the quality is fully there again. Aluminium, too, is significantly more limited in recycling.
